Ouch! How does a mole get removed and does it hurt?

So i have had this little mole like bump on my neck for years now although it is not the colour of a mole and my doctor says it is harmless. However, i am getting more and more and now have five around my body. The rest are very similar although they are darker in colour. I am thinking i might want to get them removed and the doctor said i dont have to but if i want to i can. So my question is how do they remove something like this and does it hurt? My mum said that she had one removed and what they did was pull it with tweezers and then cut it.
