How do the California Governor's primaries work?

I am familiar with the Federal primary process, but I need to compare them to the California Democratic and Republican gubernatorial primaries. Surprisingly, I am not finding much information in the web. Any help? Do the RNC or DNC (committees) have any input or value to these? How are delegates selected--by county, House district, what? How many delegates are sent from each party?
